Male Waxing – ‘a demand, not a beauty treatment’
For some time now most beauty salons have been offering the somewhat under advertised or under informed service for male waxing, albeit limiting it to just the front torso and back torso, which, what is appearing to be, detrimental to the undiversifying beauty salons. With the slowly increasing number of beauty salons succumbing to the fact that male waxing is a NEED not a ‘beauty treatment’ and the fact there are now a number of highly professional male only waxing salons opening up all over London, it seems like the unrealised potential still being associated with male waxing should now be unjustified and not only become, just another part of a list of male treatments but a highly regarded and practiced treatment that will inevitably prove it has the demand it deserves.
Some of the facts the guys may want to know and make the first wax an easier one:
Unlike shaving and hair removal creams, waxing removes hair by the root. This means it takes longer to grow back (generally 2-4 weeks) and re-growth is noticeably softer and sparser. No itchy stubble, long lasting results and fantastically smooth skin.
For male body waxing the area is cleansed with a pre wax lotion, then warm strip wax is applied with a spatula or a waxing roller on the particular body part in the direction of hair growth, a paper or fabric strip is then firmly pressed over the wax and quickly removed in the opposite direction removing the hair from the follicle. Once all the hair has been removed an ‘after wax’ cooling lotion or gel is then applied to sooth and calm the area.
The procedure differs when it comes to male intimate waxing as the therapist would more likely use non-strip/hot wax instead of strip wax. When this wax is applied to the skin with a spatula, it coats the hair with a thick layer, as the wax cools it becomes firmer contracting around the hair and gripping them tightly, whilst not sticking to the skin. The wax remains on the skin until it becomes opaque in colour-drying to form a slight tacky consistency. It is then pulled off the skin with a fast movement.
Aftercare tips:
-You should avoid excess sweating, i.e. gym, sauna, steam room.
-It is fine to shower/bathe, but have the water cooler than usual.
-Don’t use highly scented lotions and potions on the waxed area.
-No sunbeds (for a couple of days) or fake tan.
-Wear clean underwear after intimate waxing and generally avoid anything that will allow bacteria to enter the open pores.
If you’re serious about maintaining that clean and hairless feeling, it is recommended that you come in every 4 weeks for the first 4 appointments. You may then find that you will be able to leave longer gaps between your appointments.
